How to use RecFit

1. Start a recording

Press Start recording. Your browser asks what to share: a tab, a window or the entire screen. Pick one, and recording starts right away. Your browser asks every time.

With the browser extension you can start from any tab: click the RecFit button in the toolbar, or press Alt+Shift+R (Option+Shift+R on a Mac). RecFit opens and your browser asks what to share. In Firefox, RecFit opens with Start recording ready; click it or press Enter. The same keys stop the recording again. To use different keys, follow the link on RecFit's start screen to your browser's shortcut settings.

2. Choose your sound

Before you start, you can turn on two options. Record my microphone adds your voice. Record the computer's sound adds the sound of what you are recording.

The computer's sound works in Chrome and Edge. A tab's sound works on any computer. The whole computer's sound works on Windows and ChromeOS when you share the entire screen. Firefox can't record the computer's sound, only your microphone.

3. While you record

A clock shows how long you have been recording. Pause holds the recording and Resume carries on. The paused time is left out of the video. Stop ends the recording, and so does your browser's own Stop sharing button.

You can switch to what you are recording. RecFit keeps recording in its own tab. The tab title shows the time, like “● 1:23 Recording”. Click that tab to come back.

With the browser extension, the toolbar button shows a red “REC” badge while you record. Click it to bring the recording tab back.

4. Save your video

After you press Stop, RecFit tidies the video in a moment. Then it shows your recording with a player.

Press Save as MP4. An MP4 plays everywhere. In Chrome and Edge the recording is already an MP4. In Firefox it is recorded as WebM, and Save as MP4 converts it on your computer, which takes a little while for long videos. WebM recordings also have Save as WebM.

Files are named like “RecFit 2026-10-11 at 23.41.07.mp4”. Press New recording to start again.

5. Your recordings stay on this computer

While you record, RecFit saves every second of video in your browser's own storage (a database called IndexedDB) on this computer. Finished recordings are listed under Recordings on this computer, with the space they use. They stay there until you delete them. Press Open to bring one back. Press Delete to remove it from this computer. RecFit asks you to confirm first.

6. Get a recording back after a crash

Because the video is saved as you record, what was recorded is safe if the browser or the tab crashes. The next time you open RecFit, it tells you a recording was interrupted and offers Recover it. Press it to get the recording back, then save it as usual.

7. Longer recordings and editing (Pro)

Free recordings can be up to 3 minutes each, with no watermark. At 3:00 the recording stops by itself and keeps what was recorded.

RecFit Pro is a one-time purchase, with no subscription. It has no time limit. It also lets you cut out the parts you don't want, at the start, the end or in the middle. Press Edit. A bar under the video shows the recording. Play or click to where a part should start or end and press Split here. Then choose a part on the bar and press Remove this part (or Keep this part to bring it back). Playing the video skips the removed parts, so you see what you'll get. Saving joins the parts you keep into one video. Start over puts the recording back in one piece.

Your recordings never leave your device

Everything happens in your browser. No upload, no account, no ads, no watermark.

If something goes wrong

The microphone is blocked

RecFit tells you the recording has no voice. Allow the microphone from the icon in the address bar, then record again.

There is no computer sound

First check that Record the computer's sound is on. Firefox can't record the computer's sound, only your microphone. On macOS and Linux, only a tab's sound is available, so share a tab. On Windows and ChromeOS, share the entire screen to get the whole computer's sound.

The recording stopped at 3 minutes

Free recordings stop by themselves at 3:00 and keep what was recorded. Start a new recording to carry on, or get RecFit Pro for no limit.
