RecFit Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 12, 2026

The short version

RecFit records your screen entirely on your device. Your recordings, and what is on your screen, are never uploaded, transmitted, or stored anywhere outside your browser. We collect no personal data.

Your recordings

Your browser makes the video, and RecFit keeps it on your computer. The picture, the sound and the finished file never leave your computer. While you record, each second is stored in your browser's own database (IndexedDB) on this device. If the browser or tab crashes, the next time RecFit opens it offers to recover the recording. A recording stays in the list until you press Delete. When you save, the file is written to your computer and nothing is sent anywhere. In Firefox, turning a WebM recording into an MP4 happens on your computer too. Your settings are kept in your browser's local storage.

What you share

Your browser's own share dialog asks what to share (a tab, a window or the entire screen) every time, and recording starts only after you pick. If you record your microphone, the browser asks for your permission, and you can block it from the icon in the address bar. RecFit records only what you chose, and only until you stop.

Data collection

The RecFit browser extension collects nothing: no analytics, no telemetry, no cookies, no account, no ads. RecFit has no servers that receive data. Its only permission is "storage", used to remember your settings and your Pro license key. Screen capture needs no extension permission: your browser asks you each time.

Pro licenses

Purchases are processed by Lemon Squeezy (their privacy policy applies to checkout). Keys bought through Lemon Squeezy are checked once, with Lemon Squeezy, when you enter them; that request contains only the key. Older bundle keys (they start with FIT1) are checked on your device, with no request. After that, the key is kept only in your browser's local storage and isn't checked again.

Open-source licenses

RecFit's own code is MIT-licensed. It uses Mediabunny (MPL-2.0) to convert video.
